Robert S. Morrell was born in Manchester, N.H. in 1920. He enlisted in the Army at Fort Devens, Mass. on February 4, 1942. At the time of enlistment he had completed two years of college, was unmarried and working as a stenographer. Morrell joined the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Lewis, Wash. and was assigned to Company L of the 87th Mountain Infantry Regiment, but later served with the 10th Mountain Cavalry Resonnaissance Troop, and Companies K and F of the 87th Infantry Regiment.
